HEAVY RAIN IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA
BAD DROUGHT BROKEN UP RAILWAY TRAFFIC . INTERRUPTED i Adelaide,'December 27. Heavy rain fell yesterday over almost the whole of the northern portion of the State. Pastoral areas reported the best falls for years. Virtually, the rain means the break-up of one of the worst droughts in history, extending over nearly six years. Falls up to 34 inches were recorded. The train to Broken Hill was cancelled owing to washaways. CYCLONE IN VICTORIA EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO PROPERTY Melbourne, December 27. Houses were unroofed, fencing and telegraph lines blown down, and trees uprooted yesterday by a violent cyclone which swept townships north of Bendigo. Not a building at Knowsley escaped damage. The Roman Catholic Church and a private house were razed to the ground. The cyclone had a width of two miles, and travelled at great speed. The roads are blocked by fallen trees. The gale blew itself out in an hour, and was followed by heavy rain.
