NORTH ISLAND MEETING MARKSMEN AT PUTIKI Dominion Special Service. • Wanganui, December 27. The North Island rifle shooting meeting was commenced on the Putiki rifle range this morning. Riflemen were present from all parts of the North Island. The gathering included Captain A. Neilson (Napier), tho present holder of the North Island Belt; Deputy-President C. Whiteman, Deputy-President H. Hunt (Wellington), Riflemen 11. J. King and E. A. Ballinger (Petone). The above arc past holders of the belt. Riflemen Merrett and L. Loveday, who won the King's Prize at Bislcy, were also present. Other prominent shots were A. Ballinger (Petone), Staff-Sergeant-Major Kearney, winner of the King’s Prize lit Treritbam in 1929. The latter also won the tyro championship at Wanganui last year. AU told (here were 95 entries. Captain S. M. Dixon (secretary) and Jiis staff had all the arrangements in smooth working order. A tricky wind made shooting fairly difficult to-day. Twenty-five clubs are represented at the meeting. The following are the chief scores: — Service Series. —Rifleman P. C.
