RIMUTAKA ARRIVES

STORMY END TO PASSAGE Shortly before fl o’clock yesterday morning the New Zealand Slipping Company's liner Rimutaka arrived In the stream at Wellington from London and Southampton, via Panama Canal. The vessel berthed at 9.45 a.m. at the King’s Wharf to land her passengers and part cargo. Immeditcly after leaving Southampton the Rimutaka encountered a north-westerly gale with high seas, which continued for six days, after, which fine weather prevailed till arrival at Colon on the morning of December 3. Fine weather continued in the Pacific Ocean until last Tuesday, when a westerly gale and high seas were met with. On Thursday morning ling weather resumed, but early yesterday morning the vessel ran into a strong north-westerly gale which lasted until arrival. No call was made at Pitcairn Island. Christmas Day was celebrated with a children’s party attended by Santa Claus, and there was a Christmas tree. Captain C. B. Lamb retains command of the Rimutaka, and his officers are:— Chief, Mr. F. Tho Rimutaka is to sail from Wellington at 6 o’clock this morning for Port Chalmers, Lyttelton and New Plymouth to complete discharge of her cargo. » CARGOES OF RAILS. The Richardson steamer Parera, due back at Wellington to-morrow from Gisborne, will leave here on the return trip on Monday with a load of rails. The Gunbar, which is expected to arrive at Wellington early on Monday morning from Waikokopu, will sail on the return trip on Monday evening also with a cargo of rails. CAMBRIDGE DELAYED. Heavy rain prevailed at Lyttelton yesterday and the Cambridge was delayed in loading. The Federal Company advise that an endeavour would be made to dispatch the vessel from Lyttelton at 5 p.m. to-day for Wellingtin, where she would arrive to-morrow morning. The Cambridge is to complete loading at Wellington. She Is timed to sail finally from hero next Friday for London, Avonmouth. Liverpool and Glasgow, via Panama Canal. TAHITI LEAVES SYDNEY. The Union Company advise that their R.M.S. Tahiti left Sydney at 4 p.m. on Thursday for Wellington, en route to Rarotonga, Papeete and San Francisco. The vessel is due at Wellington early on Monday morning, and will leave here on Tuesday afternoon, in continuation of her voyage. ARMADALE REPORTS. Two days earlier than scheduled the steamer Armadale will reach Auckland from New York at' 4 o'clock this afternoon, according to wireless advice received by the agents. The vessel is under charter to the A. and A. Line and has a general cargo for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. HERMINIUS DUE MONDAY. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company advise that the Herminlus will leave Auckland to-day for Wellington, in continuation of her voyage from Bunbury. The vessel Is due here on Monday, and will put out part of her cargo of jarrah at this port. The remainder is for Lyttelton and Dunedin. THE NORFOLK. The New Zealand Shipping Co. advise that the Norfolk will leave Wellington early on Wednesday morning for Napier to complete loading. She is expected to sail finally from Napier next Saturday for London, via Panama Canal and , Curacao. ASPHALTUM FROM TAMPICO. The steamer Frances Massey 4212 tons, is reported to have cleared Tampico, Mexico, on December 10 with an asphaltum cargo for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. She is aue at Auckland about January 20. GOLDEN CROSS AT AUCKLAND. The Oceanic and Oriental Navigation Company’s steamer Golden Cross arrived at Auckland at 2.30 p.m. yesterday from Pacific Coast ports. The vessel will next proceed to Wellington, where she is due about January 7. PASSENGERS FOR NEW ZEALAND. Booked to leave Sydney for Wellington by the Marama yesterday were: Mrs. and Miss Bibby, Mr. and Mrs. Anderson and 2 children, Mrs. Barthorpe, Miss Guest, Mr. nnd Mrs. Orbell, Mr. and Mrs. Coutts and Mr. Coutts, junr., Mr. and Mrs. Morton and child, Miss Morton and Mr. Morton, junr., Mr. Bell, Mr. Deer, Miss Ross, Mr. Vanstaveran, Mr. and Mrs. Harry, Mr. Morar and child (native), and 3 Indians. Booked to reach Wellington by tlie Ulimaroa on January 7 are Mr. and Mrs. Chapman and 2 children.
