POLICE, BY-LAW, AND CTvIL CASES Mr. E. Page, S.M., dealt with police cases In the Magistrate's Court yesterday. "I promise you faithfully, Sir, that If you give me this one chance I will never come before you again,” said Patrick O’Callaghan, a labourer, aged 57, who pleaded guilty to his third offence of drunkenness. Accused was fined £l, in default three days’ imprisonment. He was allowed three days in which to pay his fine. Edward Poster, aged 38, was fined £1 for casting offensive matter. He was convicted and discharged for drunkenness. A remand for one week was granted In the case of Robert Forbes Reid, alias Robert Mason Russell, said to be a station manager, who was charged with obtaining board to the extent of £lB 18s. at Hastings by means of raud, and with obtaining goods at Wellington to the extent of £lB 18s. by means of a valueless cheque. Accused, who was further charged with obtaining a pair of binoculars valued at £2 10s. at Wellington by means of a valueless cheque, was granted bail In the sum of £2OO. BY-LAW • CASES Messrs. H. W. Lloyd and D. Milligan, J.P.’s, dealt with offenders against the by-laws. For haying defective rear lights on their vehicles, Lawrence G. Keyes and John K. Scorrie were .each fined 10/-, For a like offence Dr. H. Arthur and Ernest D. Burr were each fined 5/-. George Bray was fined 5/- for having no rear light and a like amount for having no driver’s license. Ernest H. Finlayson was fined 5/- for leaving his car unattended, while for a similar offence Frank Campbell was convicted and ordered to pay 10/- costs. Stuart L. Gardner was fined 15/- for having no driver’s license. Violet Gastein was convicted and ordered to pay 10/- costs for lighting a fire in the open air. Abraham Josephs was fined 10/- for failing to sound his horn. Jesse E. Colehin and Frank Smith were each fined 5/- for leaving their cars unattended. ■ Smith was also fined 10/- for having no driver’s license. Ralph Van Asch and Benjamin Jardine were each lined 15/- for having no lights. Harry J. Reynolds was fined 10/- for failing to give way at an intgrseetion. Robert J. Johnstone was fined 15/- for speeding. ■ Gerald W. Guerin was fined 5/- tor negligent driving; John A. Kirkcaldie 5/for having no driver’s license; Edward Hartley 5/- for having no lights on his bicycle; find Edward R. Hawkey 10/- for having defective brakes on his motor-car. Hawkey .was also fined £1 for having no driver’s license.
