SHEEP FOR RUSSIA

AUSTRALIAN SHIPMENT GOT AWAY EMBARGO TOO LATE (Rec. November 28, 9 p.m.) Sydney, November 28. The Norwegian motor-ship Thelatta, with 5000 Australian sheep for Russia, sailed to-day, a bare hour before the Government’s proclamation prohibiting the export of stud sheep became operative. The vessel was beyond the threemile limit and outside jurisdiction when the embargo took effect. No attempt was made to detain the vessel before departure. An official of the Navigation Department on the wharf declared that everything was in order, and gave the master clearance. It was ascertained that all but 150 sheep on board were flock ewes.
