APPOINTMENTS AND RESIGNATIONS Several alterations in the personnel of the officers and staff of Victoria College were made by the council last night . , . Mr. J. H. Hunter as director of Workers’ Educational Association classes was accepted with great regret. Dr. I. L. G. Sutherland will be his successor. Mr. J. R. Elliott. M.A. (Cambridge), B.A. (Svdney), who is at present lecturer and tutor at Trinity College, Melbourne, was appointed lecturer in classics. Mr. Elliott graduated at Sydney University in March, 1921, as a 8.A., with first-class honours in classics and the University medal. He was awarded the Woolley Travelling Scholarship, and joined Christ’s College, Cambridge, where in 1923 he graduated 8.A., with first-class honours in the Classical Tripos, Part 11. On being elected a bachelor scholar by his college, be took a post-graduate course In classical archaeology, and gained the diploma in 1924. In Sydney University he has acted as assistant lecturer in Latin in connection with a scheme to give university instruction to external students, and is at present lecturer and tutor in Trinity College. Melbourne, and in the absence of Professor Scutt has been taking part in the instruction of the Greek classes in the University. He is 2S years of age. and has testimonials from Professor Todd, of Sydney University, Professor Kerry, of Melbourne University, and Mr Gordon Taylor, of Trinity College, and Mr. D. K. Picken, warden of Ormond College. Mr. J. A. Brailsford. 8.A.. was appointed as a W.E.A. staff tutor, replacing Mr. A. E. Mander, who resigned. Mr. N. R. Palmer was made n student tutor in the physics department of the College.
