The annual meeting of the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Trained .Nurses’ Association was held last night at the Nurses’ Club. Miss Kohn presided. The clubroom, which has been newly decorated through the generosity of a member of the council, was a bower of beautiful flowers, scut from Master-, ton. The annual report stated that the membership of the branch had increased slightly and was 410; transfers to other branches, IS; transfers from other branches, 7; working members, 90; renting rooms, 33. The death of Miss Jean Todd was recorded. At a meeting of the council, held in August, a motion of sympathy had been passed. The death had occurred in October of Miss France, an old Wellington nurse, a life member of the association, and at one time well-known at the club. In August, Miss Gell had resigned her position as matron of >the nurses’ club and Mrs. Shaw had been appointed in her place, while nt a meeting of the council, held in September, it had been decided to increase the house committee. Misses Kohn, Inglis, Cookson and Bagley were added to the members. The association was much indebted to, and thanked, Dr. Elliott, president of the British Medical Association, for enabling tbe nurses to attend the discussion and lectures during the Medical Conference. “The Educational Committee, consisting of Miss Bicknell, Miss Bagley, Miss Cookson, Miss Clarke, Miss Willis, and Miss Moore, met monthly until September,” continued the report. “Its activities during the winter months arc as follow:—(1) The committee undertookk to obtain some idea of the amount of time spent by a nurse during her training on unskilled work. A questionnaire was sent to every training school in New Zealand, and this report showed how very varied is. the present system, and how some of the hospitals expect the pupil nurses to carry out practically the whole or a great deal of its domestic services. This report was submitted to the council. (2) The committee met and discussed the lecture subjects for thg winter months. (3) Subjects dealing with nursing education were discussed, and remits directed to the council for the annual conference in Auckland. The committee will resume activities after the summer holidays. * “The Public Health Committee, which has consisted of Miss Lambic, Miss Grey, Miss Willis, Miss Mitchell, Miss Wallace, Mrs. Johnston and Sister Lewis, have ’ met regularly each month. (b) Drawing up and consideration of various remits of importance to public health nurses in general, to be submitted to the annual conference. (c) The conduct of a lunch 'each month for public health nurses in Wellington. This lunch has been held at the Y.W.C.A., who have allowed us the use of a room. Each member of the committee has been responsible for one lunch. Several times outside speakers have given a short address at the end of the lunch, which lias been much appreciated by those present, some of these being Dr. Ada Paterson, Dr. Platts-Mills, Mrs. Peter Fraser, and Mr. Middleton and Mr. Alexander, health inspectors.*’ At the last lunch, held in October, the following committee had been elected for next year:— Miss Willis, Miss Mitchell, Miss Grey, Sister Lewis, Mrs. Johnston, Miss Linton, Miss Blathwaite and Miss Lambie.
