BUILDING ACTIVITY AT CHRISTCHURCH

OCTOBER PERMITS HIGHEST FOR YEAR Dominion Special Service. Christchurch, November 26. Extensive building construction is taking place in Christchurch and suburbs, all branches of the trade being engaged in the operations, which embrace the erection of every type of building from the motor garage to the palatial house of entertainment. Commercial offices, showrooms and warehouses, residential accommodation in the form of flats, and houses and shops small and large are going up, and builders are busier than they have been for some time. Last month permits were issued by the city council to the value of £102,809. This figure is the highest for the current financial year, and is several thousands of pounds in advance of the next highest. Permits issued in the city to date since April 1 are of a total value of £487.503.
