UPPER HUTT AFFAIRS

The value of the building permits issued by the Upper Hutt Borough Council since April 1 of this year is £52,769. The number of permits issued was 110, or which 55 were for dwellings. A sucessful concert was held ini the Majestic Theatre by the Upper Hutt Municipal Brass Band, assisted by the following artists : Misses J. and F. M Internal!, Mrs. Bennett, Messrs. E. Short, H. McGuinness, A. J. Mazcngnrb, and Bandsman McPherson. The audience expressed its appreciation of the high quality or the various items by encoring each of the artists. The band funds will be considerably augmented by the proceeds from the concert.

UPPER HUTT TENNIS CLUB.

The Upper Hutt Tennis Club junior A grade played Western Hutt junior A grade on Saturday and won by 11 games to 5, Upper Hutt scoring 86 points and Western Hutt 48. The following are the details of the games played, Upper Hutt players being mentioned first:— Ladies’ Singles.—Miss I. Shiel beat Miss P. Fisher, • 6—2; Miss E.' Harper beat Miss N. Doran, 6—o; Mrs. I. Wilkie lost to Miss C. Armstrong, 2—6; Miss J. Watt beat Miss L. Latimer, 6 —l. Men’s Singles.—P. Whiteman lost to Evans, 4—6; Thomas lost to Unnie, 4— —6; Sutcliff lost to Chant, 5—6; P. Wilkie beat Fose, 6 —-1. Ladies’ Doubles. —Misses Shield and Harper lost to Misses Fisher and Doran, 5— Mrs. Wilkie and Miss J. Watt beat Misses Armstrong and Latimer, 6 — 0. Men’s Doubles. —Whiteman and Thomas beat Evans and Unnie, 6 —3; Sutcliff and Wilkie beat. Chant and Fose, 6—o.
