Dr. Edward G. Levinge. for some years medical superintendent of the Mount View Mental Hospital, died at Hammer Springs on Eriday last, aged 77. years. Dr. Levinge came to Wellington in 1884. as surgeon of the steamship Dorie, and after three years' service in the mental hospital here, was transferred to Christchurch as medical superintendent of the Sunnyside Mental Hospital. lie took a keen Interest in horticulture. The Canterbury fund for the rehabilitation of the Belgian people during and after the Great War was started by him. and Dr. Levinge was responsible for the formation of the Imperial Mission in New Zealand, which was begun with a view to getting people to buy British goods.
