“WHITE FEATHER TREATY”

ANGLO-RUSSIAN AGREEMENT HEATED SCENE AT CONFERENCE London, November 22. It is known as the “White Hart Agreement,” because it was negotiated at the “White Hart Inn,” ’ but it should be called “White Feather Treaty,” declared Sir Alfred Knox at the Conservative Associations’ Conference, in seconding Commander Locker Lampson’s motion of protest at the resumption of Anglo-soviet relations till Russia ceased her propaganda and paid her debts. There were heated scenes and cries of “Are you an Englishman?” when Commander Arthur Marsden said that Russia owed him money, but it was not common-sense to say, “do nothing” till Russia paid her debts. He would support the motion if it objected to recognition till guarantees were given to refrain from propaganda. The motion was agreed to. Another resolution opposed the evacuation of Egypt, and another the abandonment of Imperial preferences.
