TWO FORCED LANDINGS

Captain White, in a Hastings Spartan aeroplane on liis- way to Martinborough this morning, encountered rough weather, and, owing- to, poor visibility, made a forced landing on the property of Mr. J. D. Mathews, Mangaliao, about five miles from I’ahiafua. He made a good lauding. He is accompanied by Mrs. Richmond, a lady pilot of the Hawke’s Bay Aero Club.. i Shortly after 9 o’clock Capf. White was away again, after a good take-off. Danncvirke. November 15. While flying to Wellington early this morning to participate in the aerial pageant,. Lieutenant Allen, assistant instructor to the Hawke’s Bay Aero Club, who had ns- passenger in a Moth aeroplane Mr. N. Freed, of Havelock North, had to make a forced landing at Tiratu. on the outskirts of Dannevirkc. The aeroplane left Hastings at 6.20, and had a bumpy flight against a head wind. About 7 o’clock, when the aeroplane was over Tiratu. the petrol pipe leading to the carburettor burst, and it became urgently necessary to descend. Lieutenant Allen circyled round in search of a landing, and safely descended in a paddock twelve ehaips long on Air. A. IL Pollock’s farm, near the factory.
When landing the aeroplane just grazed the top of a belt of trees and missed a wire fence.
