Derby, in record time. Nightmarch was beaten into third place in the Melbourne Stakes, but was close up in fast time. Nearer home the Carterton and Banks Peninsula meetings occupied attention. Rabbi won the Wairarapa County Cup and Atholspear scored in the sprint. At the Banks Peninsula meeting the principal handicap was won by Quarterdeck.
