NEW ZEALAND AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP STOUT AND BOWIE IN THE FINAL Tlie semi-finals in the New Zealand amateur billiards championship were played-at tlie Federal Club yesterday. In tlie afternoon, 11. Shanks-. (Working Men’s Club) met L. C. Stout (U.S.A.). There was a good attendance. Stout Too Good For Shanks. From the start Stout showed form equally as good as in his game with W. E. Hackett, and while scoring fairly freely invariably managed to leave the balls hard for Shanks, who for an hour or so was in the cold. By the time Shanks had a look in and began to re-' duce the arrears, Stout had too substantial a lead. He only reached 50 once, and only had one other break over 40, which is below his championship performances. Stout went in ami scored all round the board, playing good, steady, and consistent billiards. The final score was: Stout G6G Shanks 512 Breaks: Stout 42, 25, 29, 23, 27, 20, 23,. 52, 29, 21, 23. 39, 27, 27. Shanks 20, 39, 36', 23, 50, 25, 33, 45, 34, 20. Bowie Beats Tucker. The game in the evening was between A. Bowie (Auckland), holder, and AV. N. Tucker (Federal), and this game also drew a fair attendance. Tucker failed to get properly into his stride, and made one of his poorest displays in the championships; although the balls did not run kindly for him; Tlie Aucklander • played good billiards- and made the best run of big breaks so far. Tucker did not get; -much more than half way, the final score being 666-369 in Bowie’s favour. Breaks—Bowie 26, 49, 55, 20, 74, 50, 49, 24, 60. Tucker, 39, 25, 26. Stout and Bowie play the final of 1500 up to-day in two sessions of 750 each, the first at 2.30 p.m. and the second at 7.30 p.m.
