MASTERTON NOTES

Masterton, November 1. Thirty-six motor drivers! licenses and four heavy traffic licenses were issued by the Masterton Borough Council during the month of October, making the respective totals for the year 1516 and 125. The Masterton County Council issued 24 motor drivers’ licenses and one heavy traffic license, bringing the totals to date 1061 and 22 respectively. An enjoyable concert was given in St. Matthews’ Hall, Masterton, last evening, the proceeds from which are to help provide children’s playing apparatus at South Park. Items were given as follow Pianoforte solos, Mrs. W. G. Perry; song, Mrs. S. J. Smith; humorous sketch, Mrs. S. J. Smith; song, Mr. IT. J. Jones; dialogue, Misses Norah Ratcliffe and Euphle Tate; humorous recitation, Mr. J. Mulvey; vocal duet. Miss E. Jones and Mr. H. J. .Tones; song. Mrs. Goodin: elocution. Mr. D. Edwards; songs, Messrs. W. Iggulden and B. Venner. The accompaniments were plaved by Mesdames W. G. Perry and S. J. Smith. , . „ There were 34 births registered in Masterton during October as compared with 17 in the corresponding month last year. Deaths numbered 5 (12) and marriages 8 (10). The annual exhibition of pictures by the Masterton Sketch Club attracted a large attendance of art lovers to-day. There were several fine examples of scenic water colours, and one or two oil paintings. some of them showing excellent touch and finish. The collection is a large one.
