Another example of the lack of knowledge that exists in some countries as to the exact location of New Zealand was received by a Napier business man in his mail, in the form of a trade letter from Germany. The envelope, which contained catalogue and pamphlets descriptive of the products of a well-known Berlin exporting house, was addressed to the recipient at .“Napier, New Zealand, U.S.A.” It is not an infrequent occurrence for New Zealand to be taken as a portion of Australia, but it is surely the first time on record that the Dominion has been taken as an Offshqpt of America. Tlie bird-poisoiiing campaign organised by the’.South Canterbury Farmers’ Union this year has been as successful, if not more so/ than last year’s, states’ the “Timaru Herald.” The secretary of the union said the other day, with a smile: ‘‘The birds are all dead now.” The method Of extermination used, phosphorised .. oats, which ’ have been issued by the Department of Agriculture, has proved very effective, and a marked decrease in the number of birds in theAlistricts in which the campaign has been carried out, is very noticeable?
