PROPOSED SERVICE TO CAPE TOWN EXTENSION FROM INDIA TO AUSTRALIA (British Official Wireless.) Rugby, October 30. Mr. F. Montague, Under-Secretary for Air, stated in the House of Commons that the proposals for an air mail service to Cape Town had now been agreed to between the various Governments concerned, and a survey party, consisting of representatives of Imperial Airways and Air Ministry officials, had left this country for Cape Town for the purpose of visiting the countries en route ajid settling details of ground organisation in consultation with local officials. He hoped that a service half-way to Cape Town would be in operation by June, 1930. The proposals for an early extension of the England-to-India air service from Karachi to Calcutta were now under consideration by the Government of India. The question of an extension to Singapore and Australia was being examined. VICTIMS OF CITY OF ROME DISASTER FUNERAL AT SPEZIA Spezia, October 30. The victims of the City of Rome air mail disaster were taken to Genoa for Protestant interment in simple wooden coffins carried on gun carriages, covered with Union Jacks. The procession comprised the local Prefect, the Commander of the Naval Department, representatives of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, the Mayor, and British Consul. Virtually the whole population of Spezia, bare-headed, lined the route.
