ONTARIO ELECTIONS
CONSERVATIVE MINISTRY RETURNED TO POWER GREAT MAJORITY OVER ALL PARTIES (Rec. October 31, 7 p.m.) Ottawa, October 30. At the Ontario Provincial elections the Conservative Government, under the Premiership of Mr. G. H. Ferguson, was returned to power. The standing of parties as a result of the election is:— Conservatives 93 Liberals 9 Progressives 4 Independent Conservative 1 Liberal Progressive 1 Doubtful 3 Deferred 1 The Premier and all the Cabinet Ministers were elected. he Liberal leader, Mr. Sinclair, also was elected. The Progressive leader, Mr. Lethbridge, was defeated. ■ In the last. Legislature the Conser.uvatives held 77 seats; the Liberals 23; Others. 12. GOVERNMENT’S LIQUOR POLICY (Rec. October 31, 11 p.m.) Ottawa, October 30. Liquor was not a direct issue in the Ontario elections, but certainly the Government policy of sale was endorsed by the electorate. The result to-day will be cold comfort for people who wish Ontario brewers and distillers to be prohibited from exporting to the United States. The Government has a big programme of hydro and mining development.
