“FULL SPEED AHEAD”
ENDING THE SESSION NO IMPREST REQUIRED “Full speed ahead” is now the Government’s watchword, and, in the endeavour to close the session at the earliest possible date, it was announced in the House of Representatives yesterday that a Saturday sitting would bo held this week.
What might have been a lengthy discussion was saved last evening through the discovery that it would not be necessary to have an Imprest Supply Bill this month. The Acting-Leader of the House (Hon. G. W. Forbes) said that the Secretary of the Treasury had advised that, as an Appropriation Bill would be before the House at an early date, there would be no need to have an Imprest Bill, as supply would last until the Appropriation Bill came forward.
“As we have had some late nights this week, it is not proposed to sit past 10.30 to-night," said Mr. Forbes. “However, there will be a fair amount of business to-morrow.” Mr. J. A. Nash (Reform, Palmerston) : Will you ask for urgency then? Mr. Forbes (with a smile): We will ask for urgency, but I do not know whether we will have to use it It is also proposed. to sit on Saturday. If we start early in the morning we may be able to adjourn for the day at lunchtime.
