JOURNALISTS SENT TO PRISON
REFUSE TO VIOLATE ETHICS OF PROFESSION
(Rec. October 31, 10 p.m.) Washington, October 30.
Three times reporters were sent out by the City Editor to investigate the liquor conditions. They published firstperson stories, saying that they easily purchased liquor in forty-nine speakeasies. The grand jury took up the matter, but a trio of journalists refused to violate the ethics of the profession by testifying to the names and addresses where they bought the drinks. Judge Gordon, of the Supreme Court of the District of Columbia, sentenced them to forty-five days’ imprisonment for contempt of court
