ELECTRIC KNIFE FOR HOSPITAL

INQUIRIES BEING MADE IN LONDON It was officially reported to the Hospital Board yesterday that a donation of £6O iad been received from Mrs. T. Dwan for the purchase of an electric knife for the operating theatre. The chairman (Mr. C. M. Luke), in expressing the appreciation of the board, for Mrs. Dwan’s generous gift, said that the medical superintendent (Dr. H. B. Ewen) was in communication with Dr. Anderson, who was in London, regarding the purchase of another kind of electric knife, but which would cost a good deal more than the one suggested. It was afterwards’ascertained by a “Dominion” representative that the knife which is to be reported upon by Dr. Anderson will cost about £3OO. If it was found desirable that one of these should be purchased and would be of greater benefit to the hospital, it was probable that the additional amount would be forthcoming. The article drawing attention to the fact that Wellington Hospital did not possess this particular type of surgical instrument was published in “The Dominion,” following a report from our special correspondent at Christchurch that such a knife had been presented to the Canterbury Hospital Board.
