WELLINGTON INCREASE SUSTAINED OVER £400,000 UP THIS YEAR Customs revenue collected at Wellington continues to show the increase which has been very pronounced since the beginning of the year. The return for October, though £40,376 less than for September, was nearly £63,500 ahead of October, 1928. The total for the ten months of the year to October 31 was £424,791 ahead of that for the corresponding period of last year. The net Customs revenue collected at Wellington during October was £284,491 13s. lid., compared with £220,992 19s. 2d. during October, 1928, an increase of £63,498 14s. 9d. The total for the ten months of this year was £2,564,367, compared with £2,139,576 during the corresponding period of last year, an increase of £424,791. A monthly comparison for the ten months is afforded by the following table: —

Total 10 months £2,564,367 £2,139,576 Motor Spirit and Tire Tax. Collections of duty on motor spirit last month were £28,961 4s. 4d., compared with £28,143 3s. In October, 1928, an increase of £BlB, and the total for the ten months was £321,953, compared with £225,563 from March 1 to October 31, 1928 (the only months for which •figures are available). The tire tax collected last month was £3027 95., compared with £3484 Ils. 4d. in October, 1928, and the total for the ten months was £47.240, as against £35,481 from March. 1 to October 31, 1928. < Beer excise collections last month were £5570 4s. 10d., compared with £5217 12s. Bd. in October, 1928. The total for the ten months was £41,901, compared with £42,595 for the corresponding period of 1928, a decrease of £694. DUNEDIN By Telegraph.—Press Association.
