BOXING
DONOVAN-DOBLE TO-NIGHT. What promises to be one of the largest crowds attracted to the Town Hall should be seen to-night when the long-looked-for contest, between Doble and Donovan is to take place. The Taranaki champion has rapidly come into popular favour. What he lacks in cleverness is compensated for by bis whirlwind tactics. Doble is not quite, of the rugged class, blit his record it) Australia suggests that he is a hard man to beat. His sparring partners testify to his being a hard-hitting opponent and clever, and the opinion is that if Donovan can defeat, him he is likely to defeat any of the Australian feather-weights. In criticising Doble’s last contest in Sydney, when he easily accounted for Robinson, the Newcastle champion, a well-known sporting writer characterised him as a slow beginner but a fierce fighter. While there has been a heavy demand for seats, those who have thus far not secured their tickets will still be able to book, while earlydoor tickets for all parts are still available. The plan will close at 4 this afternoon.
