Constantinople, September 30.
The Turkish authorities at Smyrna gaol, who have been baffled to know how prisoners have been constantly obtaining supplies of opium, kept watch and discovered that the prisoners had tamed pigeons which were nesting in the prison yard. They gave these birds to friends on regular weekly visiting days, and the friends tied phials of opium beneath their wings and' the birds then homed with the precious luxury.
