SEPTEMBER WEATHER
SUNNY, BUT COLD
Approximately 189 hours of sunshine were recorded in Wellington during September, which is above the average (169 hours). In spite of this, the month was rather a cold one, the mean temperature being 3 degrees below the average. The rainfall (3.29 in. was quite normal. Hall fell on four days, and some severe frosts were recorded. Stray northerly gales prevailed on September 2,8, 9, and 18, those on September 8 and 9 being the heaviest. On the first of these two days the run of the wind for 24 hours was 508 miles, and on the second 633 miles. Turbulent southerlies blew on September 20 and 27, the latter being the most severe. Rain fell on 13 days, the heaviest dally fall being that of September 2 (,98in.). The rainfall was slightly lighter than last year’s figure for the same month. 3.31 in. The mean maximum temperature was 54.4 degrees, and the mean minimum temperature was 42.3 degrees. The highest temperature recorded In the shade was 60.6 degrees on September 15, while the lowest was 34 degrees on September 22. There were no days on which sunshine wns not recorded. The mean barometer reading was 29.9491 n„ very close to the average (29.9391 n. The highest reading was SO.SGIn. on September 22, and the lowest 29.5031 n. on September 3.
