MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

CHAMPIONSHIPS TO START ON OCTOBER 19 - The newly-elected Management Commit :tee of the Wellington Cricket Association, at their first meeting last night, decided that entries for all grade championship competitions should close at 5 p.pj, on Monday next, and that championdip games should start on October 19. There were present: Messrs. P. B. Broad (chairman), A. Doneghue, W. A. Aldersley, R. A. Whyte. J. Reid, J. S. Banna, L. J. Brabin, W. J. R. Christopherson, R. F. Steele (Umpires’x Association), and A. Varney (secretary). Election of Committees. The following committees were set up for the season: — - Senior Championship Committee: Messrs. A. Doneghue, W. A. Aldersley, -R, A. Whyte, and A. Ronaldson (chairman). (Junior Championship Committee: Messrs. L. J. Brabin (chairman), 0. BinBio, W. Keenlyside, J. H. Gray. Third and Fourth Class Committee: Messrs. J. Reid (chairman), D. McKenzie, A, Fairbairn, and F. C. Gentry. _ Postponement and, Transfer Committee: Messrs, A,' Ronaldson, L. J. Brabin, and J. Reid, Honorary Membership Committee: Messrs, J, S, Hanna, 11. A. Whyte, R. Fgteele. /. Boys’ League: Mr. R. F, Steele. . Intermediate Grade: Mr. A. Doneghue, Plunket Shield Dates. Discussion took place upon what were the most suitable dates for Plunket Shield matches this season, in view of the visit Of. the English team to the Dominion. Mr. Luttrell, of Canterbury, submitted I suggested programme ,of Plunket Shield matches for the season, but it was pointed out that nothing could be done until the amended itinerary for the English team’s tour had been received from the New Zealand Cricket Council. Mr. J. S. Hanna pointed out that in view of the crowded season, , there would have to be a good deal of give-and-take - between the Plunket Shield associations this season. ... It was agreed to leave consideration Of (he dates over until next meeting, the secretary in the meantime to obtain the itinerary of the English team’s tour from the Cricket Council. It was decided that the chairman (Mr. P, iB. Broad) should act as delegate for the Wellington Cricket Association at the; special meeting of delegates called by ; the New Zealand Cricket Council at Christchurch for November 12. Town v. Manawatu Association wrote, agreeing to the Wellington Association’s suggestion that the expenses of . players representing the Country against the Town should be borne by the country associations, instead of by the Wellington Association as hitlw'tp. The Manawatu Association was <r ite prepared to pay the expenses of any of their.players selec» ted to take part in the match. They ■ were strongly of opinion that the annual fixture should be kept . going, and said they would rather have one of their players selected to play for the Wellington representative eleven than win the Hawke The chairman explained that replies had been received from all the country associations, except Taranaki and Wanganui, and all were unanimous that the Town v. Country match should be proceeded with, and that the match sho”ld be played on November 29 and 30. All the country associations who had replied had agreed to Wellington's suggestion that either the country associations or the country players themselves should pay the expenses of the country players taking part in the match.
