HAY BEATS McDONALD BOUT STOPPED By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, September 80. Artie Hay, of Hastings, won the middle-weight boxing championship of New Zealand to-night when he defeated Lachie McDonald, of Tlmaru, in the twelfth round. The referee stopped the bout after McDonald had been down twice for a count of seven and eight. The first five or six rounds were fought at a very fast pace. This told on Mc-< Donald, who was down for eight in the tenth round, and for seven in the eleventh. There was a large crowd at the Town Hall.
Hay weighed lOst 131 b., and McDonald list. 41b. The winner also holds the welterweight title.
