CAUGHT IN THE ACT

ALSATIAN DOG WORRIES SHEEP Dominion Special Service. Christchurch, August 5. Severe losses have been inflicted upon sheep-owners in the Styx district lately by the depredations of Alsatian dogs. One man, it is reported, lost about 19 ewes, valued at about £35, in one night; another owner has also lost a number of sheep, valued at about £2 a head. Matters came to a climax the other day, when a big Alsatian bitch was caught in the act of worrying a ewe and she was promptly shot. Recently there was much controversy regarding the menace of this breed of <’.og to the Dominion flocks, and the cases now reported lend support to the efforts of those who are urging I rliament to prohibit the breeding of these animals.
