AWARD FOR GALLANTRY

PRESENTATION TO SCOUT In recognition of his gallantry in saving a boy from drowning in the Clyde Quay Boat Harbour on January 24 last, Patrol-Leader Fraser Robfytson, of the Kangaroo Patrol, Kent Terrace, has been awarded the Scouts’ gilt cross medal for bravery, and a certificate signed by the founder of Scouting, Sir Robert Baden-Powell. As soon as Robertson noticed the boy’s plight he jumped into the sea, fully clothed, and had to dive twice to recover the boy, who had then sunk beneath the waves. The decoration and the certificate — one of the highest honours in the Scout movement—-were presented to Robertson by the Governor-General (Sir Charles Fergusson) at the coming-of-age jamboreg rally at Kilbirnie on Saturday. “Your gallantry,” said His Excellency, as be bent down and pinned the cross on to Robertson’s tunic, “has brought distinction to yourself, your patrol, and the Scouting movement.” At the call of His Excellency three cheers were given for Robertson.
