FOXTON NOTES
Foxton, August 3. The annual meeting of the Foxton United Sports Association on Thursday night was presided over by Mr. W. T. Jewell, president. There was a good attendance. The annual report and balance-sheet showed a very satisfactory position. The election of officers resulted as follows: Patron, Mr. J. Linklater; president, Mr. W. T. Jewell; vice-presi-dents, Messrs. W. E. Barber, R. Bryant, M. E. Perreau, D. Christie, and Brook Taylor; committee, Messrs. Thomson, Barron, Smith, J. Barber, S. Austin, J. Newton, Alexander, W. Ross, W. Jewell, .inn., S. Barber, H. Hamer; treasurer, Mr. E. Parkin; secretary, Mr. L. Couch; auditor, Mr. Rangiheuea; delegate to union. Mr. S. Austin. It was decided to hold the sports on Labour Day. , , A pleasant social was held at the Convent Schoolroom on Thursday night when parishioners welcomed home the Rev. Father McDermott and farewelled the Rev. Father Brennan, who had been relieving in Foxton during Father McDermott’s absence in England and Ireland on holiday. The Rev. Father Brennan was presented with a cheque by Mr. M. B. Bergin on behalf of the parishioners. At All Saints’ Schoolroom on Thursday night a social was held at which Mrs. C. . Symons was presented with an illuminated address 'by members of the All Saints’ Vestry as a mark of appreciation of her service to the church prior to her marriage. The Rev. Walton was also presented with a similar address to mark the celebration of ten years of service in Foxton. Both recipients suitably MOllied,.
