FIGHTING FIREBLIGHT
AMENDING REGULATIONS FRAMED
Amending regulations under the Fireblight Act, 1922, declaring commercial fruitgrowing districts, and prescribing the time and manner in which hawthorn in such districts shall be dealt with, are published in the Gazette. The effect of the amendments Is to delete the Greytown district from the principal regulations, and to prescribe a new area, embracing Greytown, Carterton. and Masterton. The new district, which will be known as the Wairarapa district, and the Palmerston North district, are brought under the Third Schedule of the Act, which prescribes that hawthorn must be eradicated altogether. The (armors in the newly-defined area are allowed until June 30. 1930, to eradicate their hawthorn hedges, which are held to encourage fireblight. All hawthorn in the Palmerston North district has already been eradicated.
