SALESMAN’S LICENSE ENDORSED. Palmerston North, August 2. The endorsing of his license and u fine of £l5 was the penalty inflicted upon John Arthur Giffney, a salesman, aged 38, by Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M.. in the Palmerston North Magistrate’s Court this morning, where he appeared, pleading guilty to a charge of being intoxicated while in charge of a motor-car. The senior-sergeant said that at about 6.5 p.m. yesterday-the constable at Ashhurst saw accused drive away from an hotel, driving the car erratically. Later he saw the accused with his face covered with blood, and smelling strongly of liquor. Apparently, said the senior-ser-geant, he had run his car into a depression, and only the bumper had prevented him from droppin" over a cliff fully 100 feet high.
