THE DAY IN PARLIAMENT PRIVATE MEMBERS’ BILLS Crowded galleries heard the Minister of Finance (Right Hon. Sir Joseph Ward) read the first Financial Statement of the present Government in the House of Representatives last night. The Budget, on this occasion, was a particularly lengthy document, and the reading of it occupied Sir Josenh Ward just on two hours. A resolution providing for the immediate increase in primage flutes on all imports lefl to a lively discussion, which was continued for an hour nnd a half. The debate on the Budget will start on Tuesday. A variety of matters occupied the attention of the House at the afternoon sitting. The report on the Cash Order Trading system was laid on the table by the Minuister of Industries and Commerce, and the discussion on it will take place after the Budget debate. Several private members’ bills were also discussed, but the only one to pass the second reading was the Marriage Amendment Bill, sponsored by Mr. H. G. R. Mason (Auckland Suburbs). The House rose at 11.5 p.m. The main business to-day will be consideration of the proposed amendments of the Standing Orders.
