August 1, 9.30 p.m.) Victoria (8.C.), July 31. The Conservative leader, Mr. Bennett, addressing a meeting at Bowkers Beach on Wednesday, said it was not true that tiie Conservatives did not stand for the -development of Empire trade. “We do not care, though, whether it is Britain, France, the i United States or Italy we are not going to give away markets without giving something in return. We are not for any trade that may mean the destruction of Canadian industry, but I will tell you also what we are for, that is, an Economic Conference of the component parts of the Empire, so that we may discuss with other parts what they produce and we do not.”
