THE COMPETITIONS
RECORD NUMBER OF ENTRIES. At a meeting of the executive council of tlie Wellington Competitions Society, Mr. W. P. MacLachlan presided over a full attendance of members. Tlie programme committee reported tliat the entries for the festival were a record for any yet held by the society. Twentv-two classes were deleted from the syllabus, and the entries received totalled •jk.i'J, being nine in excess of the previous Jl it\vas pointed out that it was quite impossible for Mr. Harris to adjudicate all the entries in the elocution section, the total being 1429. It was decided to request Mr Bvron Brown to act as associate judge in the junior classes. Owing to the large number of entries, the Wesley Church Schoolroom, Taranaki Street, has been enagged as a third hall for a full week. . , , Mr. H. H. Cornish was appointed adjudicator for the impromptu speeches and debates. It was resolved that, no stage properties will be allowed in the action songs and action recitations. A special feature of this year’s festival will be the church choir contest. All choirs entered have been first prize-winnre nt various competitions, aud a keen competition is anticipated. It was resolved that membership tickets be issued at once, and be obtainable only from the secretary.
