CLYDE QUAY SCHOOL

NEW HEADMASTER WELCOMED At 9 o'clock yesterday morning the committee and children of the Clyde Quay .School assembled in the school ground to welcome the new headmaster, Mr. M. J. O’Connor, late of the Pahiatua School. The children were addressed by the chairman, Mr. W H. Phillips, who explained that the appointment of Mr. O’Connor was made to fill the vacancy caused through liie tragic death orf the late Mr. Thomas Irvine. The chairman also explained t' I lit* new headmaster that the Clyde Quay School ranked amongst the foremost in Wellington. Many ex-pupils held important positions throughout the country, and it was considered there was as good material in the school at the present time. It was pointed out that great success had attended the school in respect to sport, particularly swimming, and many trophies were in the headmaster's office as proof of this. The chalrmau wished the new headmaster every success in his new sphere of labour, and paid a tribute to the acting headmaster, Mr. Fisher, who had ably conducted the school in the Interval. Further speeches were made by Mr. T. Forsyth (chairman of the Education Board), who cordially welcomed Mr. O’Connor and appealed to the children to do their utmost. Mr. Fisher also spoke and congratulated the new headmaster on his appointmnt.
