THE REFORM PARTY
Sir, —When reading the report of the alleged disintegration of the Reform party in this morning’s issue, I was impressed by the similarity of a previous canard emanating no doubt from the same source, which was published prior to the General Election, wherein it was stated that several well-known local gentlemen (whose names were quoted) had '‘joined up” with the United political party. Ou inquiry it was quickly discovered that there was not an atom of truth in the statement. At about the same period, among other ludicrous declarations made by the then organiser of the United Party, was that there would be a slide of at least twenty Reform members to the new party “before the last election.” It is well-known that not a single Reformer has seceded from its ranks. But this is in keeping with the latest "kite”; and the puzzle to many people is how such obviously unfounded reports appear in reputable newspapers, without their source of origin being fully authenticated?-!
