AUSTRALIANS DEFEAT SOUTH CANTERBURY INTERESTING CONTEST By Telegraph—Press Association. Timaru, August 1. The touring Australian hockey team defeated South Canterbury at Geraldine to-day by four goals to oue. The ground was heavy, and this handicapped the players a good deal. The home team put up a good tight, but the combination ot the visitors was the deciding factor. Australia had the better of play in the first half, and led at intervals by .> goals to nil. South Canterbury improved in the second half, but the forwards lacked finish, and good scoring chances were thrown away. Despite heavy going the game was an interesting one.
