WELLINGTON ROWING CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING The Wellington Rowing Club held its forty-fourth annual meeting last night. Congratulating the club on the completion of a successful year, Mr. W. Fraser said that during the past year the club, from a regatta point of view, had not been quite as successful as it might have been, but there had been a better showing than the previous year. The ' membership was particularly satisfactory, in fact, at one period the committee saw fit to close the membership list. At the beginning of the season as many as twelve crews were entered for races, but with the selection of the crews for Picton Regatta and Redding Shield, crews for the next races were broken up. This state of affairs gives rise to the question as to whether it was not better for the club to drop Picton and continue with their club-races. A great-deal of expense had been incurred in the repair of old boats.
A very important point brought under discussion was the possibility of the removal of the clubhouses. The leases held by the club expired on June 9, after a tenacy of forty-two years. The Star and Wellington clubs have appointed repre- • sentatives to confer with the City Council in the matter, and the position at present is that the ground is held on a yearly tenancy. This meant that sooner or later the clubs would be compelled to find another site, although probably not for two or three years yet. It was pointed out that if the proposed reclamation at Evans Bay 'was carried out, the only available site for the boating sheds in the harbour would be taken. Should this eventuate, rowing in Wellington would carry on under a great disability. Officers for the ensuing season were elected as follows: —President, Mr. W. J. Gaudin; vice-presidents. Messrs. W. A. Arnold, A. Bognuda, F. C. Brown. A. Burch, A. Duncan, P. Flanagan, H. C. Hunter, F. Hurley, G. Lauchlan. T. W. Leslie, H. McKinley, A..N. Mathieson, S. Myers, F. W. Moore. W. Nais'mith, D. J. Duff; deputycaptain, Mr. A. J. McKinley; hon. secretary, Mr, T. H. Millar; treasurer. Mr. B. Smith; committee, Messrs. H. G. Garrett. W. Fraser, A. D. Townsley, F. Shanley, R. S. Meech, W.
