LEADING AGGREGATE SCORES

As there ’ are no interclub notes this week, a list has been prepared showing the twenty leading aggregate scores in A grace (four shootsj possible 280), I> grade (five shoots, possible 350), and C grade .(six shoots, possible 420)), It would be interesting also to contrast the aggregate scores with a given number at successive club competition series shoots. In the A grade, Goldfinch and Hare have done well. In the B grade Higginson has achieved an average of 68, and Hutt and P.Ai\ .MX. are producing promising shots. In the C grade Johnson leads wjth an average or 67.16, a very fine performance. The Railway ladies are especially in evidence, and are deserving of praise. Last Wednesday night the members of the Petone Central Miniature Rifle Club tendered a “shoot” social evening to their vice-presidents and to the lady friends of the club members, in all 53 person# taking part. Amongst the visitors were several really good shots, who with a little coaching would be a big acquisition to any club. Two guests In particular put on extra good' shoots for novices, namely, Mrs. Townsend and Mr. Sodden. The club was greatly honoured by th® presence of the Mayor. (Mr. D. McKenzie), who was welcomed by Mr. Ffrost, the club deputy president, in the unavoidable absence of. Mr. Feasey, president of the club. Mr. McKenzie in a speech referred to the good that Is gained by being shootists, and at such evenings as It had been his pleasure to be present he had found It made “life worth while.’.’ Mr. McKenzie declared the evening open by firing the opening shot and securing a bulls-eye. During the evening card games were played, and a selection of gramophone records supplied by Rifleman Eaton listened to. . , The guests of the evening were made up Into two teams, the captain’s and the vice-captain’s team, the latter gaining a ■victory by a substantial number of points. Supper was provided and was very daintily served up by a band of ladies. The untiring assistance these ladies have rendered to the club has earned the warm thanks of the members. Trophies were won as follow:—Lady non-shootlst, Mrs. Townsend, 1; Miss McGhle. consolation prize. Gentlemen non-shootlst, Mr. Seddon, 1; Mr. McGhle, consolation. Lady shootists, Mrs. Warner and Mrs. Llppett. The trophy for the club members was won by Rifleman Hobbs, who secured a possible. The consolation prize went to Mr. Johnson. The trophies were presented by the Mayor. The evening was brought to a close with three cheers for Mr. McKenzie and the visitors. Public Service Club. The leading scores of competitors who completed the second round of the second quarterly competition of the Public Service Club are the following:—Bromley, Croxton, Forbes, and Perry, each a possible 70 (a very excellent performance); Miss Cave and Nicholson, each 69: Hendry and Sadler, each 68; Clark and Fittall, each 66. For the Information of any Government servant desiring to gain a practical Insight into the activities of this

form of sport, a cordial Invitation is extended to him or her to visit the range, corner Bunny and Featherston Streets, any Thursday or Friday night. Suburbs Club. A feature of recent Suburbs Club competitions is the splendid improvement in the scores of several of the junior shots, notably A. Stewart. R. J. Young. McDonald, Hartnell. Brackenridge, and Banficld. H. R. Hunt secured a win in the monthly A grade aggregate. A. Stewart registered the third successive win in B grade, and now has been promoted to A grade. The club team fired for the Osmond Shield last week, and. as anticipated, tho scoring was . considerably affected by the poor lighting of the range, due to the Winter Show being on. Under the circumstances Hunt and Harris shot well to register 69 each. More new members are required, and are invited any Thursday evening to the W.M.R.A. range, Winter Show Association building.
