INTER-COLLEGE GAME It is freely admitted that Rugby is seen at its very best when college teams meet St. Patrick’s College and Wellington College have proved excellent nurseries for the game for many years past, both institutions turning out many notable players. The annual match between these friendly rivals will be played at Athletic Park this afternoon, and if the weather proves propitious there should be a good attendance to witness the popular fixture. Interest in this afternoon’s game will be heightened by the 'fact that both colleges are level with 21 victories each. The following will be the teams: St. Patrick’s College: McGuinness; Mexted, faster, J. Cooney; Dennehy, McCarthy; L. Cooney; Wright (captain); Hughes, J. McCarthy, Swindell, Finnigan, Burke, Hogan, Johns. Emergencies: Kane, Raster, Hagney. Wellington College: Masters; Gill, Cromie, Stephenson; Carlson, Caro; Weggs, Bird; Middlebrook, Williams (captain), Perrett, Mackenzie, Hood, Turner, James. Emergencies: Stevens, Keedwell, Hill, Paul. Mr. J. Moffitt will act as referee. WELLINGTON UNION MEETING A meeting of the Management Committee of the Wellington Rugby Union was held last night, Mr. J. Prendeville presiding. The Poneke Club wrote stating that as they could not field a team of fourthgrade players, they were reluctantly compelled to withdraw from the competition in this grade. , A letter from the Selwyn Club stated that as several of their third-grade players were unable to play on account of illness, it had been found necessary to withdraw the team. Owing to St. Andrew’s College (Christchurch) being unable to play until Friday, August 2, permission has been granted for the Scots’ College-St. Andrew’s College match to be plnyed on that day. Owing to the fact that a number of sixth nnd seventh-grade players will be taking part in the 21st birthday jamboree rally of Boy Scouts, which takes place on Saturday afternoon next, it has been decided to postpone sixth and seventhgrade matches for that day. The Wairarapa Rugby Union wrote asking if the Wellington Union woiild accept a visit from the Wairarapa Junior representatives. The Wellington Union decided to inform Wairarapa that they had regular home and home matches with Canterbury and Manawhenua, and that their junior programme for the season was now full. Permission was granted for a primary schools’ team to play against Hutt on Saturday next, against Levin on August 10, and against Wanganui on August 25. FIXTURES FOR SATURDAY WEEK.
