GRAND JURY RETURNS “NO BILL”
PIE-CART MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE The grand jury, after a lengthy retirement, returned a “no bill” in the case of Eric Matthews, a petty officer on H.M.S. Diomede, who was charged in the Supreme Court yesterday with the manslaughter of John Stevens, who died from a fracture of the base of the skull as a result of being struck on the head with a bottle at a pie-cart in Post Office Square on May 8. Matthews was discharged.
