UNEMPLOYMENT
POSITION IN MASTERTON POST OFFICE ALTERATIONS Dominion Special Service. Masterton, June 19. This week there are 59 unemployed men on the register of the Labour Department in Masterton, compared with 46 the previous week. Twenty-six of these men have dependants, 47. are fit for heavy work, and 12 for light. The figures given include those of the sub-dis-tricts. The president of the Chamber of Commerce (Mr. J. H. Handyside) has received a letter from the Postmaster-Gen-eral with further reference to the telegram dispatched to him regarding Masterton Post Office alterations. The Minister, states that plans and specifications for the proposed alterations have not yet been completed, but they are being expedited. As soon as they are ready, the question of proceeding with the alterations will be considered. As far as the Post and Telegraph Department is concerned, no engineering works on which casual labour could be employed are in view near Masterton.
