London, June 17.
Mr. J. R. MacDonald explains that he wrote the Minorities article long ago in his private capacity, and its publication on Sunday was unauthorised.
The newspapers generally do not pursue the incident of the article in view of the Prime Minister’s statement, but comments are coming from the Conitinent The “Journal des Debats” says: “The ideas correspond closely with those Mr. MacDonald expressed on several occasions, if he intends to support such theories at Geneva in September he will give a most dangerous blow to the cause of peace and liberty. Mr. MacDonald has the reputation of being a friend of peace, but in reality he is a friend of Germany."
[The article in question, which was published in a Sunday newspaper, was described as being “By Ramsay MacDonald, Prime Minister of Great Britain.” It was headed, “Menace to Europe—Should the Peace Treaties be Revised?” and dealt with the minorities problem in Europe.]
