An eruption of the volcano Komagatake, 25 miles from Hakodate, is destroying villages around the base of the mountain. The inhabitants are panic-striken. Many casualties are already known. [Komaga-take is situated on Uchiura Bay, and is 4010 feet high. Eruptions were recorded as far back as 1852 and 1856.]
