THE EMDEN’S VISIT
WAIRARAPA R.S.A. TAKE NO
ACTION.
Dominion Special Service.
Masterton, June 18.
The Wairarapa Returned Soldiers’ Association decided to-night to take no action with regard to the impending visit of the German warship Emden. In commenting on the matter, the president (Dr. M; B. M. Tweed) said it was his opinion that far too much fuss was being made over the visit. He referred to the article that appeared in the “Dominion” recently in which it was stated the commander of the warship had sunk 95,000 tons of shipping. He thought there was nothing to be proud of in the fact that a man had sunk 95,000 tons of shipping, although as an officer he had done his duty. The visit was an ordinary social one and he did not think the Returned Soldiers’ Association could take any official action in the matter.
