NEW ZEALAND NOT KNOWN

MUCH PUBLICITY LOST “During a world tour last year I spent some time in Los Angeles, California, and was much Interested ip the wonderful methods employed in advertising Southern California,” stated a Wellington business man in a letter received at a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce last night. “In the Chamber of Commerce there, the whole of the ground floor is given over to a permanent exhibition of interesting and beautiful, dioramas depicting the varied scenic attractions and industrial activities of Southern California. Across one wall is a very large map, the centre of which revolves, and Los Angeles is featured in a very striking manner; on the right is shown Europe, and on the left Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Ocean. Australia is .correctly titled. As regards New Zealand, Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin are printed in their respective positions, but the name New Zealand does not appear. Across Australia, the Tasman Sea, and New Zealand, however, is printed ‘Australasia.’ “The exhibition is visited by tens of thousands annually, and I submit that through the omission of the word NewZealand, it is quite obvious the Dominion is losing much publicity; and further, it is little wonder that so many are under the impression that New Zealand is a part of Australia. I feel sure the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce would willingly erase the word ‘Australasia’ and add ‘New Zealand,’ if a request were submitted. May I suggest that this be done, either through ygur committee direct, or the Government.

“One point more: Could a generous supply of the Tourist Department’s latest literature be forwarded to the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce? From personal experience I can say it would serve a very good purpose."
