The Minister of Industries and Commerce ‘Hon. J. G. Cobbe) will return to Wellington to-day from Bluff. The Mniister of Education (Hon. H. Atmore) left Wellington Idst night for Nelson.

The Minister of Lands (Hon. G. W. Forbes) will return to Wellington today from Tauranga.

Bishon Kemptliorne; Bishop of Polynesia, bn® come to New Zealand on one of his periodical visits. Mr. \V. O’Sullivan, general manager of the English, Scottish and Australian Bank, who is on his way to Sydney, arrived at Auckland on the Aorangi. Mr. G. Lees, Queensland manager for Borthwick and Co., who has been on a trip to London, is a passenger to Sydney by the Aorangi. Mr. C. F. Agar, chairman of the New Zealand Associated Chambers of Commerce, ha? returned from a business trip to the United States and Canada.

Those New Zealanders who received honours recently from His Majesty the King will be invested with their titles by the Governor-General at Government House on the evening of June 26. Captain H. S. Pearson, a well-known Australian international polo player, who arrived in Auckland by the Aorangi on Monday, is returning from a trip to California. He organised and managed the Australian polo team which recently visited America and made a name for itself.

Advice has been received by cable that Mr. R. S. Allan, M.Sc., Otago University, holder of an 1851 Exhibition Science Scholarship, has been awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. Cambridge University, Mr. S. J. Collett, Chief Clerk, Tourist Department, has left for Nelson and the West Coast to look into tourist matters as affected by the recent earthquake. Mr. C. A, L. Treadwell was a passenger from Auckland by yesterday’s Limited express. The Wellington Chamber of Commerce last night passed a motion expressing regret at the death of MrGeorge Wilson, who at one time was prominent in the commercial life of the city and a member of the chamber.

Mr. G. S. Amos, governing director of G. 8. Amos and Co. Ltd., left yesterday by the R.M.S. Maunganui for San Francisco, en route for New York and London, on a business visit. Mr. Amos is accompanied by Mrs. Amos. Dr. W, H. Johnston and Mrs. Johnston have left Wellington for a brief tour of the Rotorua and Taupo districts.

Mr, W, Lysnar, M,P., and Mfs. and Miss Lysnar, are passengers by the lonic, due at Auckland about July 2, ,from England. Mr. J, Foley, of Auckland, passenger representative for the Canadian National Railways, is at present in Wellington. Among the passengers who will arrive at Auckland from England by the lonic about July 2 are Viseount and Viscountess Melville.

A special message from Dunedin records the death of Mr, Alexander Milne, Government Dairy Produce Grader for Otago. He passed away suddenly at his residence in Dunedin on Monday. Deceased, who was a well-known figure in Otago and Southland for many years, was once dairy instructor in Southland with headquarters at Invercargill. He left the Department’s service to enter business in Invercargill, but after two years he accepted an invitation to assume the duties of grader in Otago with headquarters in Dunedin. Feeling reference to the death of the late Father B. J. Ryan, Principal of St. Patrick’s College, was made by Mr. J. N. Millard, actipg-chairman at the meeting of the Management Committee of the Wellington Rugby Union last evening. "I knew the late Father Ryan intimately for many years," said Mr. Millard. “I first met him in friendly rivalry on the cricket field, and later on the Rugby field. He was of great service to tha community, and was a fine fellow in every way. His loss will be a great blow to St. Patrick’s College, and to our sport. I move that the condolence of this Union be forwarded to the late Father Ryan’s relatives and the authorities of St. Patrick’s College.” The vote was passed in silence, the members of-the committee standing, ;
