REPARATIONS
FOREIGN COUNTRIES AND DOMINIONS’ SHARE
The statement recently cabled that France, Belgium, and Italy were working at the Reparations Conference to increase the totals of their claims against Germany at the expense of the British Dominions has given concern to Mr. Armand Nihotte, Consul for Selgium in New Zealand. The following cablegram from a Paris corresponded to a London journal was received on Anzac Day in New Zealand: “Sir Joseph Stamp and Sir Charles Addis were obliged to stand up firmly against the French, Belgian, and Italian delegates for reparations claimed by. the British Dominions. Representatives of the countries named sought strenuously to have the Dominions’ claims parcelled out between them.” Mr. Nihotte at once got into communication with his Government, and has received the following reply from the Hou. P. Hymans, Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Belgian Cabinet: “I authorise you to publish an official and most emphatic denial.”
