WATERSIDERS’ WAGES
INCREASE IN AUSTRALIA SURPRISE CAUSED IN LONDON Australian Press Association. London, April 30. The news cabled from Australia that the pay of waterside workers will be increased IJd. an hour, and that the New South Wales Government has imposed a tax of 2 per cent, on wages sheets for child endowment, has caused surprise in business circles, as these impositions will entail large increases in the cost of stevedoring in steamship companies. Disappointment is expressed that the visit of the shipping delegation was apparently futile as far as securing reductions in the cost in Australia.
